Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast, you will depart for Nyungwe Forest National Park. En route to the Park, visit historical and cultural sites in Butare and Nyanza. You will visit the National Museum and the National University in Butare. You will also visit the Old King’s Palace (Old Mwami’s palace) in Nyanza for a cultural interaction. Have lunch in Butare and proceed with your journey reaching in Nyanza in the evening. Dinner and overnight stay at Gisakura guest House/Nyungwe Forest Lodge

Day 2: Chimpanzee trek in Nyungwe
After breakfast, you will set out for the chimp trek in this rain forest. You will first report to the Park headquarters for briefing from the Park rangers and then start your trek into the Forest in search for the chimpanzees. You will have the opportunity to see Chimpanzees and other primates like the Rwenzori colobus, L’hoests monkey, the Silver monkey, Owl faced monkey and the Grey cheeked Mangabey and so on. Return for dinner and overnight stay at ORTPN Gisakura guest house/Nyungwe Forest Lodge.

Day 3: Transfer to Bukavu, Eastern Congo
After breakfast, you will transfer to Bukavu passing via the Cyangugu Border. Upon arrival, check into your lodge. In the afternoon go for a nature walk to Mbayo tea plantation or take a local community tour visiting the Bukavu town. Dinner and overnight at Orchid safari Lodge. (Luxury/Mid Range)/Hotel Horizon (Budget).

Day 4: Lowland Gorilla Tracking in Kahuzi Biega – DR Congo
Early in the morning, go for the memorable adventure of trek to see the lowland gorillas in Kahuzi Biega National park. The hike is one of the most interesting ape watching adventures in the world. You are advised to follow the lowland gorilla trekking protocol which was set by the IUCN while tracking these apes. After gorilla tracking, you can go for a nature walk in the Kahuzi Biega park and visit Tshibati waterfalls. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Transfer back to Kigali
In the morning, embark on your return trip to Kigali passing via the Cyangugu border.
